There was an increase in US sales including retail for May 2023, as per the US Census Bureau. The advance estimates, which account for seasonal variation and differences in trading days, but not price changes, indicate that sales reached $686.6 billion. This represents a 0.3 per cent rise from April 2023, and a 1.6 per cent increase over May 2022.This upward trend was also reflected in the total sales figures for the period from March to May 2023, which showed a rise of 1.7 per cent from the same period in the previous year. The change from March to April 2023 remains at the previously reported increase of 0.4 per cent, the US Department of Commerce said in a press release.
US sales including retail rose to $686.6 billion in May 2023, a 0.3 per cent increase from April and 1.6 per cent above May 2022, according to the US Census Bureau.
Total sales from March to May 2023 also rose by 1.7 per cent from the same period last year.
The retail sector saw a 0.3 per cent increase from April and a 0.7 per cent rise year-on-year.
Retail trade sales similarly followed this pattern with a 0.3 per cent increase from April 2023 and a 0.7 per cent increase from last year. Non-store retailers, including online and mail-order businesses, saw the largest boost, with sales jumping 6.5 per cent from last year.
