The European Union (EU) annual inflation was 2.1 per cent in September—down from 2.4 per cent in August. A year earlier, the rate was 4.9 per cent, according to the EU statistical office Eurostat.
The lowest annual rates were registered in Ireland (0 per cent), Lithuania (0.4 per cent), Slovenia and Italy (both 0.7 per cent).
The highest annual rates were recorded in Romania (4.8 per cent), Belgium (4.3 per cent) and Poland (4.2 per cent).
Compared with August this year, annual inflation fell in 20 EU member states, remained stable in two and rose in five in September.
