N Brown FY20: sales £858 mn; operating profit £48 mn

N Brown, a UK-based clothing & footwear digital retailer, reported 6.1 per cent sales decline to £858.2 million in fiscal 2020 that ended on February 29, 2020, compared to sales of £914.4 million in previous fiscal year. Company incurred an operating profit of £48.1 million during the year compared to operating loss of £47.7 million in FY19.
 
Gross profit for the year were £439.9 million (FY19: £497.7 million). Company’s profit during FY20 stood at £50.4 million (£64.4 million).
 
“In a year of restructuring for the group, Simply Be, JD Williams, Jacamo and Ambrose Wilson all grew digital revenue and following further progress in the first quarter of this financial year, 91 per cent of our product revenue 3 now comes from digital channels,” Steve Johnson, chief executive at N Brown, said in a press release.
 
Revenue of JD Williams brand during FY20 fell 4 per cent to £153.1 million (£159.5 million). Ambrose Wilson revenue dropped 11.5 per cent to £45.4 million (£51.3 million). However, revenue of Simply Be grew 6.6 per cent to £128.0 million (£120.1 million). 
 
During the year, company's womenswear sales were down 1.3 per cent to £326.5 million (£330.9 million). While, sales of menswear increased 4.5 per cent to £66.9 million (£64.0 million). 
 
In the year digital revenue grew 0.2 per cent compared to FY19 and was ahead by 5.5 per cent for N Brown’s womenswear and menswear brands combined.
 
“Trading in the first quarter of this financial year was impacted by Covid-19 but sales in recent weeks have shown an improving trajectory and cash collections have been stable,” Johnson said.
 
As we move forward, we have refreshed our strategy, evolved our key pillars of growth and are pushing on with further work to streamline our brand portfolio, improve our product, create a brand new home proposition whilst improving our digital capabilities and developing our financial services offer.”
