Polyester will supplant polyester-cotton blends due to the dwindling cotton supply and volatile prices, said Dr SN Modani, the managing director of textile company Sangam India, in a recent interview with Fibre2Fashion. While welcoming government initiatives to improve cotton seeds, he highlighted the need for India to amplify yield through intensive farming and forging partnerships with scientific researchers.

He underscored emerging trends such as growing fashion awareness and sustainability consciousness, which are driving demand for manufactured fibres. “To enhance sustainability, we prioritise polyester and its blends like polyester-lycra in denim,” Dr Modani told F2F.
