  • Sustainability is key for the yarn dyeing industry, given its environmental impact, said Luca Formentini director of Italian firm Loris Bellini.
  • He emphasised that dyeing industry requires a lot of water, energy, and chemicals.
  • The firm leads by example with its Pulsar dyeing machine, which significantly reduces electric energy and water consumption.
One of the biggest challenges facing the yarn dyeing industry is achieving sustainability, according to Luca Formentini, director of Loris Bellini a company specialised in designing and manufacturing of complete plants for the dyeing and drying of yarn.

Yarn dyeing requires a lot of water, energy, and chemicals, which can have a negative impact on the environment. To address this challenge, yarn dyeing companies need to adopt sustainable practices, such as using natural dyes, reducing water usage and minimising waste, Formentini told Fibre2Fashion in an exclusive interview.

While talking about the steps Loris Bellini is taking to address environmental concerns, Formentini told F2F: “Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in the yarn dyeing industry, as the textile industry as a whole is one of the most polluting industries in the world. Yarn dyeing is a particularly resource-intensive and environmentally impactful process, as it requires large amounts of water, energy and chemicals. Overall, sustainability is a critical issue for the yarn dyeing industry, and companies that prioritise sustainability are likely to be more competitive in the long run, both from a financial and a reputational perspective.

“With the introduction of our new Pulsar yarn and tops dyeing machine, which happened almost 10 years ago, Loris Bellini gave a substantial cut to the consumption of electric energy and water, thus placing our company amongst those that actively believe in a sustainable future.”
