Solvay, an international chemical and advanced materials company, has invested in a new energy-efficient gas turbine at its soda ash plant in Rosignano, Italy. This investment, facilitated by Rosignano’s enhanced competitiveness, will secure the plant’s current production capacity and long-term competitiveness in local and export markets.

Solvay had earlier carried out a breakthrough cost saving programme at the site. “Our continued investments in our world-class assets demonstrate Solvay’s commitment to remaining a reliable and competitive supplier of high-quality soda ash for its customers worldwide,” said Christophe Clemente, president of Solvay’s Global Business Unit Soda Ash & Derivatives (SA&D).

SA&D is a world leader in its sector, producing soda ash and developing solutions based on sodium bicarbonate. SA&D has 11 industrial sites worldwide, more than 3,500 employees and serves 90 countries.

Solvay assists its customers in innovating, developing and delivering high-value, sustainable products and solutions which consume less energy and reduce CO2 emissions, optimise the use of resources and improve the quality of life. Headquartered in Brussels with about 30,900 employees spread across 53 countries, Solvay generated pro forma net sales of €12.4 billion in 2015, with 90 per cent made from activities where it ranks among the world’s top 3 players.
