Camira, global manufacturer and designer of contract and transport fabrics, has been announced as the headline sponsor for the 92nd Textile Institute World Conference (TIWC) this year, hosted by conference chairman professor Parik Goswami, the Department of Fashion and Textiles, and the Technical Textiles Research Centre (TTRC) at the University of Huddersfield, UK.

The conference, which will take place from July 3–6, 2023, will be attended by Anne, The Princess Royal and focus on ‘Sustainability of the Textile and Fashion Supply Chain – Transitioning to Zero Carbon and Zero Waste’, Camira said in a press release.

Commenting on the event, Camira’s CEO, Alan Williams, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be involved with the TIWC, which is a hugely important event for our industry. It provides us with the perfect opportunity to discuss key topics in the textiles sector as we face ‘the race to zero’.”

TIWC will address the strategies required to manage the impact of the textile and fashion supply chain on the environment and climate change. The theme directly aligns with the worldwide initiatives being undertaken in moving toward zero carbon emission. Divided into several sub-themes including future fashion, composites, dyes, pigments and polymer, nonwovens, and others, the conference will cover the latest developments and inventions towards achieving reduced carbon emissions in the apparel and fashion sectors, as well as high-end and specialised technical textile products.

“Camira is a true pioneer in environmental textiles, and we never stand still, continuously striving to improve and innovate. Most recently, we issued Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for 21 of our products, which means we’re now able to share crucial information with our stakeholders and provide a comprehensive overview of the environmental impact of our fabrics. We’re looking forward to attending the TIWC alongside other industry professionals to understand how they’re also tackling the climate emergency,” added Williams.

Organised by academic and industrial experts, the TIWC will include a panel discussion on the roadmap to net-zero. Panel members include Camira’s CEO, Alan Williams; Adam Mansell, CEO UKFT; Richard Davies, innovation, technical, and design director, A W Hainsworth & Sons Ltd; and Kate Goldsworthy, chair of circular design and innovation, University of the Arts London.

“As a leading textiles business globally and locally, Camira is working to develop a new eco system in environmental textiles, working collaboratively with the University of Huddersfield and ultimately advancing the move toward net zero. We really appreciate Camira’s support at the 92nd TIWC and are pleased they’re able to join us at what is an incredibly important meeting point for the textile industry and members worldwide,” said conference chairman professor Goswami.
