ADB starts engaging with Bangladesh's interim govt to back development

ADB has started engaging with the interim government in Bangladesh to ensure the continuation of ongoing projects and support a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable future for its people, an ADB spokesperson said.
The work will be on macro-fiscal sustainability and expansion of private sector development to enhance competitiveness and create jobs.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has started engaging with the interim government in Bangladesh to ensure the continuation of ongoing projects and support a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable future for its people, an ADB spokesperson recently said in Dhaka recently.

“We will continue to work with the interim government toward macro-fiscal sustainability, including a focus on fiscal consolidation and domestic resource mobilisation,” the ADB official was quoted as saying by domestic media outlets.

A second priority is the expansion of private sector development to enhance competitiveness and create jobs, he said. This includes working to streamline government-to-business services to reduce the cost of doing business.

“ADB will help the interim government build a whole-of-government approach to tackling climate change in its development agenda. This will include support for renewable energy and other initiatives that promote green growth,” he added.
