The euro area annual inflation rate was 7.4 per cent in March this year, up from 5.9 per cent in February, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU). A year earlier, the rate was 1.3 per cent. EU annual inflation was 7.8 per cent in that month, up from 6.2 per cent in February. A year earlier, the rate was 1.7 per cent.The lowest annual rates were registered in Malta (4.5 per cent), France (5.1 per cent) and Portugal (5.5 per cent).
The highest annual rates were recorded in Lithuania (15.6 per cent), Estonia (14.8 per cent) and the Czech Republic (11.9 per cent).
