A new cellulose and textile pulp plant will be built in south Chile’s Valdivia city by the country’s forestry company Arauco, a subsidiary of industrial conglomerate Empresas Copec SA. Arauco, which fought a court battle with local people, will invest $185 million in the project to diversify its offering of forest products, the firm said in a statement.
Arauco recently agreed to buy two wood panel plants in Brazil from competitor Masisa SA in a deal worth $100 million. (DS)
