Azerbaijan’s Gilan Textile Park will start exporting its first batch of cotton yarn to Portugal. The primary shipments are likely to be in small quantities. The company at present is negotiating with European partners to export finished products. It uses domestic cotton to manufacture various products. No chemical products harmful to human health are used.

Azerbaijan’s target is to bring annual cotton production to 500,000 tonnes by 2022 from the current 260,000 tonnes, according to a report in an Azeri news portal.
The country exported cotton fibre worth $80.5 million and cotton wool yarn worth $24 million in 2018. Compared to 2017, exports of cotton yarn increased by 2.4 times. (DS)
