Japan and Bangladesh have agreed to sign an economic partnership agreement (EPA) by the end of 2025 or early 2026 to deepen and expand bilateral trade and investment ties, it was announced recently at a ceremony to launch the EPA study report at the Japanese embassy in Dhaka.

The Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) launched the report.

The second round of negotiations for the EPA was held in Dhaka in a hybrid format from November 10 to 14. In this round, both sides discussed trade in goods, rules of origin, customs procedures and trade facilitation, trade in services, investment and intellectual property, a release from the Japanese foreign affairs ministry said.

For signing the EPA, JBCCI has formed a standing committee. Policy Exchange of Bangladesh Limited, the consulting firm appointed by JBCCI, prepared the report.
