Bangladesh parliament recently passed the Textile Bill 2018 that aims at maintaining the quality of the country’s textile products. State minister for textiles and jute Mirza Azam tabled the bill, which was passed by voice vote on September 12. As per the draft law, a directorate will be formed with a director general, who will also work as its registrar.
The directorate will be responsible for inspecting the quality and standard of various ingredients used in textile products, according to Bangladesh media reports. A laboratory will be set up to carry out the inspections and tests. (DS)
