Iranian investors were recently urged by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) to import more jute and jute products from Bangladesh. DCCI president Rizwan Rahman made the request while meeting Iranian ambassador in Dhaka Mansour Chavoshi. He also called for exploring the scope of direct shipping services between Chittagong or Mongla port and Chabahar port.

Iran can also import garments, light engineering products, leather goods, tea, pharmaceuticals, ceramic items, agro-processed food and electronics goods from Bangladesh, he said.

Bilateral trade between both sides was worth $18.74 million in fiscal 2020-21, Rahman said.

He suggested forming a joint business forum engaging leading chambers from both sides to facilitate bilateral commercial partnerships and ensure greater engagement of the private sector and stressed on organising sector-specific dialogues, business-to-business meetings and exchanging delegations for furthering trade.

Chavoshi said the bilateral trade volume is not satisfactory, but there is huge scope to enhance trade.
