Bangladesh-Uzbekistan JWG to be formed this year: Minister Munshi

Uzbekistan and Bangladesh will form a joint working group (JWG) this year to boost bilateral trade and investment, according to the latter’s commerce minister Tipu Munshi, who recently said it has been proposed to set up an Uzbek embassy in Dhaka. The third meeting of the Bangladesh-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was held in Dhaka recently.

The fourth meeting of the commission will be held in Uzbekistan next year, he said.

Uzbek deputy prime minister Jamshid Khodjaev led his country’s delegation at the meeting, which discussed enhancing cooperation in areas like trade, textile, garments, agriculture, food, fruits, pharmaceuticals, leather, footwear, tourism and transport, according to Bangladeshi media reports.

Being the 6th largest producer and 12th largest exporter of cotton, Uzbek entrepreneurs can invest in the cotton-based textile industry in Bangladesh, Bangladesh pointed out.

Bangladesh highlighted duty-free market access opportunities in major developed economies and the reputation of its garment and textile industries. It also stressed on collaborating in areas of high fashion design, fashion accessories and fashion garments.
