In terms of textile trade, Malaysia exports fabric to Cambodia and imports garments from there. Between January and November 2023, Malaysia exported fabric valued at $519.213 million in total. Cambodia emerged as the third-largest destination, accounting for 14.90 per cent of this trade. Specifically, Malaysia's fabric exports to Cambodia stood at $77.352 million, representing a notable portion of its overall fabric exports. Shipments to Cambodia saw a considerable increase of 10.44 per cent from $70.042 million in the corresponding period of 2022, as reported by Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
In 2022, Malaysia's fabric shipment to Cambodia totalled $73.158 million, representing 11.62 per cent of its overall fabric exports valued at $629.581 million for the same year. Previously, shipments to Cambodia were recorded at $99.878 million in 2021, $82.217 million in 2020, $81.266 million in 2019, $81.680 million in 2018, and $78.484 million in 2017.
In Malaysia's apparel imports, Cambodia accounted for only 3.32 per cent, with Malaysia importing apparel worth $53.796 million from Cambodia during the first eleven months of the previous year. Malaysia's total apparel imports during the same period amounted to $1,622.248 million. Imports of apparel from Cambodia to Malaysia increased by 6.66 per cent, rising from $50.436 million in January-November 2022.
In 2022, Malaysia's apparel imports reached a total of $2,051.557 million. Among these imports, those from Cambodia were valued at $56.600 million, representing 2.76 per cent of the total. Previously, inbound shipments from Cambodia were recorded at $33.169 million in 2021, $37.602 million in 2020, $57.973 million in 2019, $58.424 million in 2018, and $47.612 million in 2017, according to TexPro.
