The listed seaport handled 6.9 million tonnes of containerised cargo last year, up by 6 per cent year on year, a report, released during the ministry’s annual conference, said.
PPAP, the country’s second largest container hub, reported total revenues of 138 billion riels ($34.5 million) last year, up by 14 percent year on year, the report said, adding that the freshwater port accommodated 4.2 million tonnes of containerised goods, up by 13 per cent, a global newswire reported.
Minister of public works and transport Sun Chanthol said the government will build a new container terminal at PAS with a depth of 14.5 metres to accommodate large ships.
Its first phase work is expected to start this year and will be finished in 2025, he added, adding that it is estimated to cost.
