According to the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO)’s regional economic outlook released recently, Cambodia’s economic growth is anticipated to strengthen in 2024, accompanied by moderating inflation.

The report forecasts a growth rate of 6.2 per cent for Cambodia this year, up from 5.3 per cent in the previous year, while projecting inflation to increase to 3.1 per cent from 2.1 per cent.

The country’s economic growth is primarily propelled by sectors such as garment exports, tourism, agriculture, construction, and real estate. The report emphasises that this year’s growth will be fuelled by robust domestic demand, driven by rising household incomes and a resurgence in investment activity and tourism.

AMRO’s chief economist, Hoe Ee Khor, highlighted the importance of enhancing investment and adopting technology to enhance productivity and resilience, particularly among smaller firms, in revitalising growth.

Looking ahead, the report predicted further expansion for Cambodia’s economy, with a growth rate of 6.4 per cent projected for 2025, accompanied by a deceleration in inflation to 2.8 per cent.

This forecast underscores the country’s trajectory towards sustained economic development and the need for continued efforts to foster investment, technological innovation, and economic resilience.
