Exports of cotton textile products from China are likely to increase moderately in the upcoming period of 2021 as both domestic and international markets are gradually recovering from the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. In the first part of this year, China's cotton textile exports have exceeded pre-COVID-19 levels by more than 10 per cent, mainly due to PPE.

In January 2021, cotton textiles export fetched $1.71 billion for China. This figure declined by 20.69 per cent to $1.36 billion in March 2021. However, it rose again in June 2021 to $1.77 billion, showing a rise of 30.36 per cent over exports in March 2021.

In December 2021, cotton textile exports are projected to grow moderately to $1.88 billion, an increase of 6.15 per cent over export value of June 2021, according to Fibre2Fashion's market intelligence tool TexPro.

In the beginning of 2021, demand for Chinese cotton textiles was good while inventory was low. Hence, the market was strong. Cotton yarn market was stronger as compared to the cotton fabric, and spinners increased the stock due to optimistic market sentiments.

Near the end of January 2021, the market weakened with upcoming spring festival holidays in China. The buyers became more reluctant to purchase at higher prices. However, in Q2 of 2021, the market again recovered to the optimistic situation as seen in January 2021.
