China's fabric exports at $39.5 bn, top 5 markets capture 40% share

China exported fabric worth $39.520 billion between January and July 2024, with Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, and India emerging as the top five markets. These countries collectively accounted for around 40 per cent of China's total fabric exports. Vietnam, the largest buyer, represented 16.52 per cent of the country’s fabric exports during this period.

According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, China's fabric exports during the first seven months of 2024 increased by 2.74 per cent compared to $38.465 billion in the same period in 2023. In 2023, China exported $65.818 billion worth of fabric, which was 8.35 per cent lower than the $71.819 billion exported in 2022.

Of the total fabric exports from China in the first seven months of 2024, shipments to Vietnam were valued at $6.527 billion, accounting for 16.52 per cent of the total. Exports to the second-largest market, Bangladesh, amounted to $3.711 billion, representing 9.39 per cent. China’s fabric exports to Cambodia were valued at $2.535 billion (6.42 per cent), Indonesia at $1.766 billion (4.47 per cent), and India at $1.274 billion (3.23 per cent).

India emerged as the fifth-largest market for Chinese fabric exports in 2024, rising from its seventh-place position in 2023. India’s share of China’s fabric exports increased from 3.00 per cent in 2023 to 3.23 per cent in the first seven months of 2024, according to TexPro.

In 2023, China exported $10.317 billion worth of fabric to Vietnam, its largest market, which accounted for 15.68 per cent of total exports. Bangladesh received $5.611 billion worth of fabric, representing an 8.53 per cent share. Other key markets included Cambodia ($3.300 billion, 5.02 per cent), Indonesia ($2.954 billion, 4.49 per cent), and Nigeria ($2.308 billion, 3.51 per cent).
