China's power generation capacity grows by 14% in Jan-July 2024

China's installed power generation capacity saw a substantial increase of 14 per cent in the first seven months of 2024, according to data released by the National Energy Administration. By the end of July, the country’s total installed power generation capacity had reached approximately 3.1 billion kilowatts.

A detailed breakdown of the data shows significant growth in renewable energy sectors. Solar power capacity experienced a remarkable 49.8 per cent increase, reaching 740 million kilowatts. Wind power also showed solid growth, with a 19.8 per cent rise compared to the previous year.

From January to July, major power enterprises in China invested 415.8 billion yuan (approximately $58.27 billion) in power supply projects, marking a 2.6 per cent increase from the same period last year. Additionally, investment in power grid projects reached 294.7 billion yuan, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 19.2 per cent, as per Chinese media reports.
