China's railways transported 332 million tonnes of cargo in June, achieving a freight turnover of 266.5 billion tonne-kilometres, marking year-on-year (YoY) increases of 6.1 per cent and 5.3 per cent, respectively, according to China State Railway Group Co, Ltd, the country's national passenger and freight railroad operator.

National rail shipments of containers, automobiles, and cold-chain cargo surged significantly, with increases of 18 per cent, 12.1 per cent, and 21.2 per cent, respectively, all hitting record highs in June.

The China-Europe freight train service continued its strong performance, with 1,719 trips recorded in June, a 15 per cent YoY increase, and transported 180,000 containers, up 11 per cent from the previous year. This service has made over 10,000 trips this year, linking 224 cities in 25 European countries and more than 100 cities in 11 Asian countries, transporting over 50,000 types of goods, according to Chinese media reports.

Additionally, the China-Laos Railway, a key project under the Belt and Road Initiative, saw cross-border cargo shipments reach 2.783 million tonnes in June, reflecting a 20.7 per cent YoY increase.
