This growth was mainly driven by an increase in textile shipments, while garment exports remained sluggish. From January to September 2024, exports of garments and accessories totalled $118.106 billion, reflecting a 1.6 per cent decline from $119.987 billion in the corresponding period of 2023.
Textile products, including yarn and fabric, experienced growth, with exports rising by 2.9 per cent year-on-year to $104.303 billion, compared to $101.379 billion in the first nine months of 2023.
In September 2024 alone, China’s exports of garments were valued at $13.532 billion, while textile yarn, fabrics, and related articles totalled $11.246 billion, bringing the overall export value for the month to $24.778 billion.
China also saw a decrease in the import of textile yarn and fabric products, which dropped by 6.0 per cent to $8.095 billion in the first nine months of 2024, down from $8.613 billion during the same period in 2023. In September 2024, imports stood at $0.835 billion.
In 2023, China’s exports of textiles, garments, and accessories fell by 8.05 per cent to $293.641 billion, down from $319.376 billion in 2022. Garment exports dropped by 7.8 per cent to $159.144 billion, while textile exports declined by 8.3 per cent to $134.497 billion. Imports of textile yarn and fabric products also decreased by 1.2 per cent, from $11.881 billion in 2022 to $11.742 billion in 2023.
