A six-year-old proposal to open outlets of the Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Co-operative Society Ltd., or Co-optex, abroad will be fructified soon, according to state minister of handlooms and textiles OS Manian. Outlets will be opened in Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, he said while inaugurating a renovated showroom of Co-optex in Trichy last week.Co-optex has set a target of ₹340 crore for this year, Manian said. The Co-optex showrooms have been functioning in 67 places outside the state after 2015, taking the total number of outlets to 200, according to a report in a top Indian newspaper. (DS)
