As Manipur celebrated the 20th State Handloom Day on August 2, the state textile, commerce and industries minister Th Bishwajit called for a concerted effort for promotion of handloom and handicraft products, the second largest source of income of the people in the state. The celebration event was organised by the state Handlooms Promotion Council.

The central government is ready to provide training to 10,000 weavers to enhance their skills and the state government was planning to enlist weavers residing in the state to access their value of contribution, he informed.
He also advised officials to carry out geographical indication (GI) registration of indigenous products of our state at the earliest. (DS)
