WWF Italia has always been committed to the preservation and protection of the soil, rivers, waters, taking action through awareness building campaigns, educational activities, proposals for protected areas, and management of aquatic oases (river areas, wetlands, springs, and others). Just consider that more than 80 per cent of WWF Oases consists of river areas and wetlands, according to Eurojersey.Eurojersey is supporting WWF Italia in its endeavours to safeguard the precious portions of our land and stands by the side of the association in conducting an awareness building campaign for the protection of our oasis and wetlands and the species populating such areas. WWF Oases add up to a complex and diversified system of protected areas, the first in Italy and one of the first in Europe to be managed by an association. The Oases are the main conservation project undertaken by WWF Italia, with about 35,000 hectares of land saved from degradation, a wide spread national park, for the protection of biodiversity and endangered habitats.
One of the most significant Oases created by WWF is the Orbetello Lagoon, a wetland of international importance as a bird migration station (Ramsar Convention), home to thousands of species, including the flamingo. The Burano Lake Oasis, a hunting ground in the past, has now embraced a new destiny and is a national natural reserve, with a splendid lagoon, sand dunes and a rich Mediterranean vegetation. It is home to 274 species of birds, including tufted ducks, pochards, grebes, herons, flamingos, many birds of prey, such as the marsh harrier, the hen harrier, the osprey and the lanner falcon, and many small passerines, such as the Sardinian warbler, the subalpine warbler and the streaked fantail warbler.
A leader in the warp-knit fabric sector with its Sensitive Fabrics brand, Eurojersey is a unique and virtuous industrial model, thanks to its process sustainability project. With a vertically integrated production cycle, the company achieves substantial yearly savings in terms of reduced water and energy consumption, reduced use of chemical substances, reduced waste generation, with positive effects on the local economy and the environment.
