The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to appoint a Textiles Minister. The position has been lying vacant for two years.

He added that the sector was the largest as it provided jobs to millions and earned foreign exchange through its exports world over.
Tawab said that the business community related to the textile sector was facing various problems including unpaid sale tax refunds worth billions of rupees, drawback of local taxes and levies (DLTL), export running finance, rebates, etc. Delay in the refunds caused liquidity problem to exporters and raised cost of doing business as well, he added.
Despite Pakistan being granted GSP Plus status by the European Union, textile exports were declining, he said, and urged the government to immediately appoint a capable textile minister along with proficient staff so that exporters could easily approach to get their problems solved. (SH)
