Maisons Du Monde, a French furniture and home decor company, has reported 3.5 per cent sales decrease to €1,182.1 million in its complete fiscal 2020 ended on December 31, 2020 compared to the sales of €1,225.4 million in the previous fiscal. However, company's online sales for the year jumped 29.2 per cent representing 33 per cent of total sales.

“This performance attests to the high level of our customer loyalty, the relevance of our distinctive product offering and the strength of our omnichannel model, which reached a new milestone in November with the launch of our curated marketplace in France,” Julie Walbaum, chief executive officer of Maisons du Monde, said in a press release.

The company’s gross margin for FY20 was €778.4 million (FY19: €800.4 million). EBITDA fell 7.2 per cent to €240.6 million (€259.2 million). Operating profit dipped to €40.7 million (€114.2 million).

Regionally, sales in France were down 6.7 per cent to €627.9 million (€672.6 million), while international sales grew marginally 0.3 per cent to €554.2 million (€552.8 million).

During FY20, sales of decoration products decreased 2.1 per cent to €648.6 million (€662.2 million) and furniture sales dropped 5.3 per cent to €533.5 million (€563.2 million).

“As we enter 2021, the robustness of our model gives us confidence even as we continue to face external challenges: 17 per cent of our stores are currently closed while another 10 per cent are only open about 70 per cent of the time. Under current sanitary conditions, we expect full-year 2021 top line to grow in the high single-digit range, thanks to a robust first half,” Walbaum said.
