The volume of sales was down by 0.7 per cent MoM in retail trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles after a 3-per cent rise in August. Non-specialised stores accounted for most of this fall, while sales in specialised stores were stable and trade not done in stores was virtually stable.
Within specialised stores, the rise in sales in ‘other retail’ (plus 1 per cent MoM after plus 2.7 per cent MoM) was due to a strong increase in clothing store sales (plus 8.1 per cent MoM after plus 4.3 per cent MoM), an INSEE release said.
Early estimates show the sales volume in retail trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles was virtually stable in October this year at plus 0.1 per cent MoM. Over the three months from August to October, it was 3.9 per cent higher year on year.
