German exports to non-EU Countries rise in January 2024

Germany's exports to countries outside the European Union (EU), known as third countries, have seen a notable increase in January 2024, according to the provisional data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). There was a 1.3 per cent rise in exports to these nations compared to December 2023, after adjustments for calendar and seasonal variations were made. The total value of goods exported to third countries reached €58.9 billion in the first month of 2024.

When examining the figures without adjustments for calendar and seasonal effects, the exports to third countries stood at €55.7 billion. This represents a 1.4 per cent increase when compared to the same period in the previous year.

The US maintained its position as Germany's most significant trading partner outside the EU in January 2024. However, exports to the US experienced a slight downturn, falling by 1.8 per cent to €11.9 billion compared with January 2023. On the other hand, trade with China showed a robust growth, with exports increasing by 5.2 per cent to €7.7 billion. A significant surge was observed in exports to the UK, which soared by 12.3 per cent to reach €6.7 billion.
