German government development agency GIZ has expressed interest in providing more technical assistance to Bangladesh’s textile education sector and cultivating skilled human resources. A delegation led by the country’s University Grants Commission (UGC) and GIZ’s project manager Christian Bachmann expressed interest to start a new project at a recent meeting.

GIZ has proposed a new project called ‘Higher Education and Leadership Development for Sustainable Textiles in Bangladesh (HELD)’.

The three-year project is expected to start this year to assist the Bangladesh government in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 Development Policy, an official press release said.

The project, worth taka 300 million (€3 million), would help in the expansion of higher education and building skilled human resources in the textile sector in Bangladesh.

It will also boost research in the textile and readymade garments sector and enhance the skills of the managers engaged in the sector, according to Bangla media reports.
