A versatile and easily blendable fibre, VSF is used in apparel, home textiles, dress material, knitted wear and non-woven applications. Unlike polyester which takes more than 200 years to decompose, cellulosic fibres degrade within few weeks.
The company has been constantly managing a 360 degree symbiosis cycle for minimisation of environmental impact. "We are doing our best to save the environment from pollution. Some of our recent initiatives include replacing of plastic bottles with glass bottles, non-use of plastic cutlery, conducting awareness sessions on use of easily bio-degradable cellulose fibres over non-biodegradable fibres," chief sustainability officer- pulp and fibre, Grasim Industries Limited, Ajay Sardana told Fibre2Fashion.
Cellulose fibres are fibres made with ether or esters of cellulose, which can be obtained from the bark, wood or leaves of plants, or from a plant-based material. However, the fibres of Grasim can be used in their original form, or can be blended with all natural and synthetic fibres for enhanced comfort, feel and lustre. (RR)
