H&M is collaborating with Desserto, one of the most ecological alternative materials to animal leather in the world. The partnership will help towards the goal of creating a safer environment for the planet, and put Mexico at the centre of the global fashion industry. The products under the collaboration will be part of Science Story, H&M collection.

With this new partnership, the founders of the Mexican brand, Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez, have reaffirmed their commitment to continue developing innovative and sustainable materials whose use has a positive impact on the planet's environment.

Mexican entrepreneurs consider that Desserto has broken into the world of fashion and other industries because it is a quality alternative, attractive, sustainable, cruelty-free, free of toxic chemicals, Phthalates and PVC-free, whose use can contribute to reducing global pollution levels. A report from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) points out that fashion is one of the most damaging and polluting industries for the environment: textile production is responsible for 20 per cent of global wastewater and 10 per cent of the global carbon emissions.

Desserto, created in 2019, will establish itself in the world market through collaborations with important brands this year. Late last year Karl-Lagerfeld announced the creation of an eco-friendly accessories line in conjunction with iconic model, actress and activist Amber Valletta and now H&M.

The first collection to be released under the collective is Science Story, H&M. It will present new materials such as EVO by Fulgar, a bio-based yarn derived from castor oil, and Desserto, which is a vegetable alternative to leather, produced from cactus. Key pieces of womenswear include the bright white wide leg jeans with removable double waistband, the slightly cropped chalk white shirt with an oversized chest pocket, and the hemmed tracksuit. The energetic and daring accessories are the avant-garde antidote to the clean and classic clothing in the collection - the chunky necklace with orange swirls and rhinestone accents, matching eye-catching bow rhinestone earrings, green strappy high-heeled sandals, and recycled plastic blue sunglasses with a dual lens frame.

H&M is a Swedish multinational chain of clothing, accessories and cosmetics with stores in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and America. It has 4,700 of its own stores in 69 countries.
