The textile industry of Haiti has been badly affected due to the strike called by the workers. They are demanding for proper infrastructure facilities in the country's maquiladora export industry where the factories import materials on a duty-free basis for manufacturing and export finished products to the raw materials' country of origin.

They are demanding for higher wages, fixed working hours and protection against rising quotas in the industrial centres of Port-au-Prince, Carrefour, Ounaminthe and Caracol, according to Haitian media. At present, the textiles workers of Haiti are earning around 300-350 gourdes per day. They have asked for 200 per cent hike in the wages. (RR)
