  • Hyosung will showcase sustainable textile solutions at Interfilière Paris, offering a range of earth-friendly materials for swimwear and loungewear brands.
  • One such innovation is FishTale, a swimwear fabric created in partnership with Hung Yen Knitting & Dyeing, made from recycled nylon sourced from discarded fishing nets and recycled creora regen elastane.
With intimate apparel, swim and loungewear brands demanding innovation in earth-friendly materials and embracing trends such as inclusivity, functionality, and timeless femininity, Hyosung will be presenting its extensive offering of sustainable textile solutions in Hall 5.2, booth J71 at Interfilière Paris to be held at Porte de Versailles from July 2-4.

Hung Yen Knitting & Dyeing and Hyosung have joined together in an exclusive partnership to deliver a successful sustainable textile innovation—N850 FishTale—a swimwear fabric made from an 80/20 blend of Hyosung regen ocean 100 per cent post-consumer nylon made from discarded fishing nets, and RCS-certified 100 per cent recycled creora regen elastane, the company said in a media release.

FishTale fabric contributes to cleaning the oceans by collecting discarded fishing nets and turning them into regen ocean recycled nylon. According to an independent 3rd party Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), the manufacture of regen ocean reduces CO2 emissions by 73 per cent, fossil resource use by 75.7 per cent, and water consumption by 98.6 per cent as compared to conventional nylon. Hyosung’s creora regen elastane is the first 100 per cent recycled elastane made reclaimed waste saving valuable non-renewable resources being extracted from the earth.

“Hung Yen K&D, pioneers in sustainable fabrics, has been giving life to high-quality, recycled fabrics for swimwear applications - which represent 95 per cent of our core business - since 2017,” said Claudia Anselmi, Hung Yen general director. “At Interfilière, we along with our strategic long-term partner, Hyosung, are proud to launch N850 FishTale as another steppingstone on our path of durable, sustainable raw materials.”

“As a complete sustainable textile solution provider committed to helping our partners across the entire value chain solve complex material matters, we are delighted to partner with our friends at Hung Yen K&D in bringing this latest innovation to life,” said Simon Whitmarsh-Knight, global marketing director - Textiles.

According to Hyosung, the intimate apparel market is going through an exciting time as brands have become more accepting of long-lasting eco-friendly materials. While recycled fibres and fabrics among intimate brands is the primary sustainable option of choice, bio-based fibres are emerging as a blend with natural fibres such as cotton, silk, and modal. With regards to functionality features such as soft stretch, cooling, and breathability with sustainability are required.

The company also noted that intimate brands are leading the way in diversity and inclusivity by offering undergarments that are gender fluid, offer a broad range of skin tones and sizes, and embrace body positivity.

Women also want their undergarments to have a touch of femininity and glamour. With the return of socialising and dressing up, lingerie is becoming a bit fancier again with paired-back simplicity, see-through and sheer mesh fabrics, and lace, the release added.

To meet these trends, Hyosung will present some fibre innovations at the show. These include creora bio-based elastane: USDA and SGS-certified elastane made with 30 per cent renewable resource; creora EasyFlex elastane: soft stretch elastane, wherein the soft stretch lends to more flexible fit and simplified sizing; creora color+ elastane: acid/reactive dyeable elastane for deeper all over colour without grin-through; and regen askin, regen aqua-x: multi-function, 100 per cent recycled polyester and nylon yarns delivering cooling rapid absorption and quick-drying benefits.

Hyosung will also introduce a broad assortment of fabrics and concept garments developed by its Fashion Design Centre to help product developers and designers conceive garments made with its innovative yarns.
