India is formulating a single logistics law for all modes of freight transportation to do away with duplication of processes and simplify procedural requirements, according to minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari, who recently said public-private partnership model should be encouraged for developing air cargo infrastructure in the country.

Air cargo’s share is quite low in the domestic aviation market, with several challenges, he said.

As the country has huge flight capacity, utilisation should be improved through appropriate measures, he added.

"This system will facilitate multi-modal transportation in the true sense," Gadkari told the 12th annual general meeting of the Domestic Air Cargo Agents Association (DACAAI).

As the country’s logistics cost is around 14 per cent of its gross domestic product (GDP), Gadkari said the government aims at reducing this figure to 8 per cent, a news agency reported.

Bio-fuels can be used as aviation fuel as aviation turbine fuel (ATF) is expensive, Gadkari added.
