Indian spinners who spin yarn on the charkha (spinning wheel) will see a 25-per cent rise in their wages, while weavers who work on the loom will receive a 7-per cent hike, the ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) recently announced. The revised wages were effective beginning October 2, the birth anniversary of the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi.Prime Minister Narendra Modi had disclosed the hike in wages last month at a ceremony held at Gujarat’s Porbandar, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthplace.
