Interim govt in Bangladesh approves new export policy

The council of advisers of the interim government in Bangladesh in a meeting yesterday approved the National Export Policy 2024-27 that aims at close-to-doubling annual export earnings to $110 billion by fiscal 2026-27.

The policy includes some new products, including handicrafts, in the priority list, said Mohammad Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser.

Thrust areas include development of the services sector, and textile fabrics and spinning are included in the special development sectors, domestic media outlets reported.

The meeting also discussed other important issues.

Alam said that the interim government will start a second phase of its dialogue with political parties soon. Out of the six reform committees, five had been finalised and one will also be finalised after coopting two or three members.
