Italy’s exports in April increased by 2.3 per cent month on month (MoM) and 10.7 per cent year on year (YoY), while imports decreased by 1.1 per cent MoM and increased by 1.4 per cent YoY, seasonally-adjusted official data show.

The country’s exports increased by 0.8 per cent MoM for European Union (EU) countries and by 3.8 per cent MoM for non-EU countries. Imports decreased by 1.4 per cent MoM for EU countries and by 0.6 per cent MoM for non-EU countries.

Exports rose for EU countries and non-EU countries by 8.2 per cent and 13.6 per cent YoY respectively in April. Imports increased by 5.4 per cent YoY for EU area and declined by 3.5 per cent YoY for non-EU area in the month.

In April, trade balance registered a surplus of €4,807 million (~$5,159 million)—a deficit of €228 million for EU countries and a surplus of €5,036 million for non-EU countries. Excluding energy, trade balance surplus was equal to €8,595 million in the month, a release from Istat said.

Import prices in the month increased by 0.8 per cent MoM—0.3 per cent for the euro zone and 1.3 per cent for the non-euro zone. These decreased by 1.8 per cent YoY in the month—1.9 per cent for the euro zone and 1.6 per cent for the non-euro zone.
