Italy's retail trade value rises for 29th straight month in Jul 2023

In the three months to July 2023, the value of sales in Italy was up 0.7 per cent, whereas volume of sales decreased by 0.6 per cent when compared with the previous three-month period. The value of retail trade continued to grow for the 29th month in a row in the year-on-year (YoY) series, rising by 2.7 per cent, while volume sales fell by 4.5 per cent in July 2023.

In July 2023, when compared with the same month a year earlier, large-scale distribution was up 5.5 per cent, small-scale distribution decreased by 0.1 per cent, and non-store retail sales grew by 2.3 per cent, the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) said in a press release.

Estimates for Italy’s seasonally adjusted index of value sales grew by 0.4 per cent in the month-on-month (MoM) series and volume dropped by 0.2 per cent. Online sales were up 2.0 per cent in July 2023 when compared with July 2022.
