The growth involved a rise in Jordan’s imports from ASEAN to JD877 million (about $1.236 billion), predominantly in products including textiles. Concurrently, national exports saw an increase to JD400 million (around $563.784 million), primarily comprising different types of goods such as textiles. Re-exports reached JD2.5 million ($3.523 million), according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
ACC’s chairman, Khalil Haj Tawfiq, emphasised the potential for Jordan to further its economic ties with ASEAN, the seventh-largest economy globally, housing a population of 668 million across a 4 million sq km expanse. The relationship can be enhanced by diversifying exported commodities and attracting high-value investments.
In line with this, Tawfiq announced ACC’s preparation for a Jordanian-Asian economic forum by the end of 2023. The event aims to facilitate joint trade fairs and business meetings, fostering closer relations between ASEAN and Jordanian entrepreneurs, industrialists, and traders.
The forum will extend invitations to the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture for Arab Countries, including trade and industry chambers from Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Yemen, and Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
