Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan recently discussed conditions for transporting goods along the route passing through the three countries with further access to Pakistan, and a proposed railway project connecting the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan border to Herat city.

Representatives from the three countries met at the First North-South Trade and Logistics Forum in Aktau in Kazakhstan on July 19.

The meeting noted that the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Afghanistan transport route is a key component of the North-South transit corridor, and its effective use will ensure the transportation of goods worth 5-8 million tonnes initially and 20-30 million tonnes in future, Turkmenistan’s ministry of foreign affairs said in a release.

A wide range of issues related to further capacity building in the transport sector were discussed.
