Kazakhstan has four cotton processing units with a capacity to process up to 31,000 tonnes of fibre. Only two, Azala Textile and Azala Cotton, function steadily.

Last December the Kazakh-Uzbek joint venture Alliance started the idle production plant Yutex. The cotton cluster development road map was approved to settle the problem. It contains measures to let Yutex work in full swing, to launch apparel manufacture and put into production the second factory standing idle.
All these measures are expected to triple domestic cotton processing and create 1,000 jobs.
