“With the right partnerships, we can make Uasin Gishu a model for sustainable textile manufacturing,” the governor was quoted as saying in an official release from the county.
Bii Chelilim recently met US ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman, who visited the country headquarters.
While touring the main campus of Moi University, Whitman said over 200,000 people are employed in the industry and there is need to boost it further to employ more people.
“We remain excited about manufacturing in Kenya. Kenya is underinvested in manufacturing, but textile manufacturing is a big growth area for Kenya,” said Whitman.
The American embassy will follow up on infrastructure and housing development in the county as an area of concern in economic growth, she said.
She highlighted green cooking and green energy an area of interest especially in environmental conservation.
