Malaysia exported fabric worth $58.992 million to Cambodia during the first eight months of the current year. Fabric was 99.53 per cent out of Malaysia’s total textile exports including yarn and fibre which had a nominal share. Last year, Malaysia had exported fabric worth $73.158 million to Cambodia.
According to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro, fabric export to Cambodia was 4.25 per cent higher during January-August 2023, compared to shipment of $56.585 million during the corresponding period of 2022. The shipment was noted at $60.571 million during January-August 2021, $50.814 million during January-August 2020 and $54.478 million during January-August 2019.
On calendar year basis, Malaysia’s fabric exports to Cambodia were valued at $73.158 million during 2022, accounting for 98.42 per cent of its total textile shipment. Last year, the shipment slipped 26.75 per cent from the export of $99.878 million in 2021. The trade was recorded at $82.217 million in 2020 and $81.266 million in 2019.
As per TexPro, Cambodia was the third largest market for Malaysia’s fabric shipment during January-August 2023. The shipment was 8.18 per cent out of Malaysia’s total fabric shipment of $376.318 million during the period. Turkiye and Vietnam were larger markets with a share of 23.68 per cent and 15.77 per cent respectively.
