Indian minister of textiles Smriti Irani recently asked businessmen and the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) to work out a plan to make Surat a textile machinery manufacturing hub. She met SGCCI office bearers in Surat recently and urged them to participate in a textile machinery expo that the government plans to organise in August.

SGCCI president Ketan Desai told a top Indian English-language daily that SGCCI could host this expo.
