The man-made fibre (MMF) industry will contribute in a major way to the growth of the textile sector, Indian textile minister Piyush Goyal recently told representatives from companies producing purified terephthalic acid (PTA), mono-ethylene glycol (MEG), fibre, yarn, fabric and garments. He called for self-sufficiency in raw materials in the polyester value chain.Goyal also holds the portfolios of consumer affairs, food and public distribution, and commerce and industry.

The minister was told additional capacities of PTA are being set up and lakhs of looms are also being installed by the fragmented downstream industry, an official release said.
