The indigenously-built container terminal includes four 100,000 metric-tonne berths and their supporting container barge berths.
Its construction started in late 2018. It incorporates Beidou navigation, 5G communications, artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicles, according to official Chinese media.
The company said the new terminal will promote comprehensive cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
Guangzhou Port Group chairman Li Yibo said after operations start, the new terminal will be integrated with the Nansha port's other terminals to form a specialised and large-scale terminal cluster, helping improve handling capacity.
The terminal has a designed annual throughput capacity of 4.9 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The annual container throughput of the entire Nansha port is expected to exceed 24 million TEUs.
The terminal achieves zero emissions as well.
