  • The Netherlands witnessed a slight 0.6 per cent year-on-year rise in goods exports for August 2023, mainly driven by machinery and transport equipment sectors.
  • Additionally, the volume of goods imports decreased by 6.2 per cent compared to last August.
  • Conditions for exports in October are predicted to be less unfavourable than in August.
The Netherlands experienced a minor increase in the volume of goods exports for the month of August, registering a 0.6 per cent year-on-year growth, as per the latest data released by Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The rise is chiefly attributed to higher exports in machinery, appliances, and transport equipment.

Conversely, the export volumes for chemical products witnessed a downturn. Additionally, the volume of goods imports fell by 6.2 per cent compared to August 2022, showing an overall reduction in trade activity, CBS said in a press release.

CBS also maintains an Exports Radar, which provides monthly updates on conditions affecting the country's exports. The Radar for October suggests that conditions are less unfavourable than they were in August. Factors influencing these conditions include the main export markets for Dutch products and the competitive stance of the Netherlands in the global arena.
