Netherlands see decline in goods exports & imports in December 2023

In December 2023, the Netherlands experienced a 1.6 per cent decline in goods exports and a 1.1 per cent decrease in goods imports compared to the previous year, according to CBS.
The CBS Exports Radar for February 2024 shows a more unfavourable outlook for exports, largely due to Dutch manufacturers' increased pessimism about foreign orders.

The total volume of goods exports in the Netherlands experienced a downturn, falling by 1.6 per cent in December 2023 compared to the same period in the previous year, according to data by Statistics Netherlands (CBS). Likewise, the volume of goods imports also saw a decrease, dropping by 1.1 per cent relative to December 2022.

The decline in trade volumes comes amid challenging economic conditions, with the CBS Exports Radar indicating that the outlook for exports in February 2024 appears to be more unfavourable than in December 2023. A significant factor contributing to this gloomy forecast is the increased pessimism among Dutch manufacturers regarding their foreign orders, as per CBS.
